Geographically, this cancer is common in regions like central and South America, Japan, central and Eastern Europe, and North India. If diagnosed early it can be eradicated by removal of gallbladder, part of liver and lymph nodes. According to Reiner Dlmalanta, this a rare cancer that is still being studied and thought to be related to gallstone buildup, which can lead to gall bladder calcification, a condition called Porcelain Gallbladder.

The outcome is poor if this cancer is found after symptoms have come and gone. As risk factors go, this cancer is twice more common in women than in men. Obesity is a factor, and so are indigenous peoples of North India and the Americas. Symptoms include weakness, weight loss, loss of appetite, and jaundice and vomiting due to obstruction. Diagnosis can be carried out by transabdominal ultrasound, CT scan, endoscopic ultrasound and MRI. The most effective treatment is surgical removal of the gall bladder, or cholecystectomy. Then there is chemotherapy and radiation.

Esophageal Cancer- malignancy concerning the esophagus

Esophageal Cancer is basically a malignancy concerning the esophagus. It consists of different subtypes, two of which are squamous cell cancer and adenocarcinoma. Tumors in the esophagus lead to dysphagia, which means difficulty in swallowing. It is classified as a typical carcinoma that arises from the epithelium. Symptoms include dysphagia and odynophagia (painful swallowing), disruption of normal peristalsis, leading to nausea, vomiting, regurgitation of food, and coughing. Substantial weight loss, the tumor surface becoming fragile and bleeding, causing hematemesis. Upper airway obstruction is another sign. Fistulas are known to develop between the upper esophagus and the trachea.

The causes of Esophageal Cancer are varied. Increased risk occurs in aged people, most common in men, heredity is a factor, smoking, obesity, alcohol consumption which leads to alcohol flush reaction, and thermal injury due to the intake of hot beverages. Diagnosis is best made with an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). CT scan and endoscopic ultrasound help as well. Treatment typically demands better nutrition choices. Esophageal stent insertions, gastronomy, and esophagectomy are other management techniques, and also chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Uterine cancer

Endometrial Cancer is, simply put, several malignancies occurring at the endometrium, and is sometimes called uterine cancer. Endometrial Cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States. It is classified as a carcinoma, usually adenocarcinoma, because it originates from the single layer of epithelial cells lining the endometrium. Two pathogenteic groups of this cancer exist. Type 1 occurs in pre- and peri-menopausal women, often with a history of unopposed estrogen. It is often minimally invasive and carries a good prognosis. Type 2 occurs in older and post-menopausal women, often African-Americans, are not related to increased estrogen exposure, and carries a poor prognosis.

Symptoms include vaginal bleeding or spotting, abnormal uterine bleeding, anemia, lower abdominal pain, thin white and clear discharge. Risk factors include obesity, high estrogen levels, hypertension, diabetes, high intake of animal fat, heavy daily alcohol consumption, infertility and others. Diagnosis is carried out with routine screening, a dilation and curettage in some cases, hysteroscopy, and endometrial biopsy. Treatment includes vaginal hysterectomy.

Detecting malignant neoplasm

Figuring out signs and symptoms through observation is the most direct way of determining the presence of cancer. Cancer screening is an attempt to pinpoint cancer before symptoms show. This involves blood and urine tests, to name but two. Medical Imaging is another means of finding out. MRI scans and thermography are two such techniques in this regard. Then there is the microscopic examination of a given tissue sample, wherein good old fashioned observation can reveal cancer. In screening, two things can happen. The tests can lead to a false positive result and invasive procedures follow.

Then there are false negative results where a cancer that is already there is missed. If signs of cancer are detected through screening, other tests are performed so as to reach a diagnosis. Medical imaging is a discipline in its own right, have a wide range of techniques. There is radiology, endoscopy, thermography, microscopy, electroencephalography (EEG), magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electrocardiography (EKG). In cases of medical imaging carried on removed organs and tissues, the procedure is not commonly called medical imaging, but is a part of pathology.

Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer is a form of bowel cancer, caused by unregulated cell growth in the regions of the colon, rectum and vermiform appendix. Till date it is strongly believed that Colorectal Cancer is one of the deadliest cancers of all decades. Symptoms depend on the location of the tumor in the bowel and include local and constitutional symptoms. Local symptoms: found near the anus, begetting unexplained constipation or diarrhea, bowel obstruction, abdominal pain, and blood or air in urine or vaginal discharge.

Constitutional symptoms: chronic bowel bleeding, iron deficiency anemia, fatigue, palpitations, pale skin, weight loss, and fever or thrombosis. Risk factors consist of age, increasing as one gets older, polyps of the colon, heredity, history of cancer, smoking, bad diet, low levels of selenium and alcohol. Diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer includes a digital rectal scan (DRS), Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT), M2-PK which is a stool test, and endoscopy. It can be prevented with good lifestyle and nutrition, physical activity, chemoprevention using aspirin, calcium, and vitamin D.
